Dr Yuri Verkhoshansky has passed away.
On The 23rd of June 2010 Yuri Verkhoshansky passed away due to illness. He was best know in sports circles as the man who changed the training paradigm. He was also
Scientific Consultant to the National Olympic Committee of Italy, former head of the Theoretical and Methodological Center at the Russian Research Institute of Sport, former head of the Russian Central Institute of Physical Culture and Sport Scientific Research Laboratory, father of Natalia Verkhoshansky PhD and the man who gave the world 'PLYOMETRICS'. Although in his native Russia this training methodology was better know as 'SPEED STRENGTH' training, which is probably a more apt and descriptive name.
If you are aware of the WESTSIDE BARBELL methods then you will already know about Verkhoshansky, because Louie Simmonds Owner and creator of the Westside method was one of the first westerners to use and develop Verkhoshansky's system for superior training protocols. Verkhoshansky wrote several books which should be in every coaches library because his works and he will be sadly missed by al of those who value innovative and intelligent resaerch to further the understanding of Human physical potential.
Here Dr Michael Yessis explains how Verkhoshanky's methods were superior to the western methodology and consequently lead to Soviet sporting dominance in the Cold War years.
